About The Owner

Jose was born and raised in Brooklyn, deeply rooted in his Puerto Rican heritage, which shaped his identity as a Nuyorican—a blend of New York street culture and Puerto Rican traditions. Growing up as the son of first-generation Puerto Rican parents, Jose always felt different. He was an overweight Spanish kid with the heart of a lion—fearless and determined, but with a soft and kind side. From an early age, he understood the value of hard work, but he never missed out on the joys of childhood.
His passion for the arts began in middle school and continued to flourish in high school, where he attended the prestigious High School of Art and Design. Those years, filled with creativity and close-knit friendships, were some of the best of his life.
Despite his artistic ambitions, Jose chose a career in law enforcement, starting his journey in New York City. However, his creative dreams never faded. From the confines of his bedroom, he launched a small printing business called Open Mind Silkscreening. What began as a solo venture has since grown into a thriving company, with three operational studio spaces. Offering a wide array of services—ranging from embroidery and DTG to heat press and engraving—the business has expanded its horizons, rebranding itself as Open Mind Custom Design.
Looking ahead, Jose is preparing for his next big step: launching his own clothing line, Open Mind Clothing Inc. As his law enforcement career winds down, he is eager to focus entirely on his business and fulfill the artistic dreams he has held since childhood.
